Job Description:


Compass Group, the world’s largest contract foodservice company, has a Great Opportunity for career development and growth here at its North America headquarters in Charlotte, NC as a Benefits Communication Manager.


The Benefits Communication Manager is responsible for creating and managing an effective associate communications program that provides information to associates about Compass Group’s comprehensive benefits package while maintaining compliance with all laws and regulations regarding communication to plan participants. This position also supports the company’s wellness program, monitoring the program and the vendor’s that support it to assure they are meeting our expectations and that our associates are benefiting from the program.


Responsibilities:



  • Prepares benefit communication strategies that enhances a competitive advantage in the attraction and retention of talent. Also prepares customized benefit communications that follow branding guidelines that are included in sales proposals to acquire new business and/or retain existing business.

  • Manages the design, development, and deployment of all open enrollment and new hire benefit communications ensuring optimal program acceptance, even in circumstances where plan design and/or associate contributions are changing. May create specialized benefits communication materials for associates affected by an acquisition, divestiture, merger, and/or joint venture. Identifies alternative and effective communication vehicles and incorporates into the work plan

  • Routinely collaborates with the legal department, outside consultants, and Director, Benefits to ensure consistent and accurate messaging and delivery.

  • Maintains and fosters relationships with vendors (e.g., designers, outside printer services, etc.) to ensure timely and accurate communications to enhance the Company’s ability to deliver positive benefit services to our associates. Manages operating budgets for benefits communications requirements and is accountable for budget compliance without diminution of service quality. Coordinate and monitor the performance of third party service providers to ensure services and materials are delivered effectively.

  • Functions as the subject matter expert on benefits communications and ensures that all messaging is compliant with both Company and ERISA requirements.

  • Develop and maintain benefit summary plan descriptions (SPD s) so they reflect current plan provisions. Ensure all benefit communications are consistent with plan documents and insurance contracts. Maintain up-to date knowledge of legal communication requirements, best practices and relevant technology.

  • Evaluate and implement communication technologies to improve effectiveness of communications program. Address issues associated with unique communication needs related to employee literacy and language requirements.

  • May assist other HR functions in creating and deploying mission critical messaging for both internal and external audiences, as well as developing various presentations and commentary for senior HR leaders.

  • Manages the operating budget needed for all projects and to maintain staff

  • Provides leadership, coaching, counseling, performance feedback, and, where necessary, take appropriate disciplinary action to a group of team members.


Job Requirements



  • 3 – 5 years experience in the development and deployment of benefit communication materials; determining the appropriate communication strategy to deliver message regarding changes/updates as well as deploying mission critical messages preferably for a company with annual revenues in excess of $1 billion

  • 2 plus years experience managing a team.

  • Experience managing vendors is preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Communications, Marketing, English or other writing discipline

  • Superior writing and editing skills and creativity as a writer

  • Knowledge of internal communication strategies

  • Demonstrated experience working under pressure and managing multiple projects at once, specifically flexibility and adaptability to unexpected changes, and demonstrated experience in developing and meeting or exceeding deadlines

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and Sharepoint technology

  • Strong interpersonal skills, in particular the ability to work tactfully and respectfully with a wide variety of individuals and teams
