Job Description:


The Director of Accounting Policy position, a key position of the Corporate Accounting Services team of Compass Group USA, is a unique role that helps set and communicate accounting policy throughout Compass Group North America while also offering accounting solutions to support the business needs of the organization.


A solid understanding of the business as well as very strong technical accounting and valuation skills are needed to ensure compliance to IFRS, Group Accounting Policies and to provide optimal business support. Exposure to senior management across the business is frequent and requires the ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively.


This position reports to the VP, Assistant Controller of Compass Group USA.


Responsibilities:



  • Support Legal and Finance from an accounting perspective on acquisitions and divestitures, new business or rebid negotiations and other accounting transactions as necessary

  • Must be detail oriented with the ability to analyze contracts, financials, and other data Self-starter with the ability to draw relevant and timely conclusions based on information obtained from multiple sources and make recommendations as required

  • Responsible for the acquisition/divestiture and valuation accounting through the management and development of a small team

  • Work with Accounting, Finance and Legal teams to ensure contract accounting is in accordance with IFRS

  • Assist with the external audit and ensure any technical accounting issues are appropriately addressed

  • Work with the Audit team to ensure maintenance of and compliance to the Key Finance Controls Test for impairment and provide analysis as needed

  • Provide regular training on technical accounting issues relevant to Compass associates in the corporate office and in the field

  • Coordinate with Group in the UK to ensure proper approvals are received on key technical issues

  • Serve on the project team for implementation of new IFRS such as Revenue Recognition to ensure Compass accounting is accurate and consistent

  • Prepare the accounting memos and documentation on significant accounting transactions

  • Ensure the relevancy and accuracy of the information in the technical accounting database

  • Work on other projects as needed


Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required, MS in Accounting preferred

  • CPA required and valuation experience preferred

  • Solid understanding of IFRS

  • 10+ years of experience in accounting/finance, including reporting and analysis.

  • Must have excellent professional interpersonal skills (negotiation and influencing others) as well as written communication skills.

  • Strong leadership, organization and time management skills

  • Must be an independent thinker, as well as a team player.

  • Strong experience with SAP, Excel, Power Point, and Access.
