Job Description
SITE SAFETY AND HEALTH OFFICER - WALTER REED NAVAL MEDICAL CENTER - BETHESDA MD
Key staff position reporting to the (Regional Vice President and Regional Manager Crothall). Provides risk management and safety leadership in a large hospital system within several areas in the Environment of Care – safety, security, hazardous materials and waste, emergency preparedness, life safety, medical equipment and utility systems.
Job Responsibilities:
Leads Environment of Care Committee (EOC) by effective use of committees, sub-committees and various subject matter experts.
Develops Environment of Care, Emergency management and Life Safety programs while insuring compliance and periodic review using industry standard audit tool.
Identifies/develops pertinent, information, data and monitoring mechanisms to provide feedback to the departments and EOC Committee.
Assists departments in the development, review and evaluation of departmental-level EOC programs.
Develops and implements safety policies/procedures, safety education and hazard survelliance programs.
Provides safety information and training to be presented in the orientation of all new employees ensuring compliance with hospital and EOC standards.
Serves as the liaison with local Fire Department officials and insurance inspectors in collaboration with the Engineering Department.
Reviews/recommends code compliance, conducts fire drills and maintains documentation as required by agencies.
Works in collaboration with Engineering, Environmental Services and other key departments to assist in meeting Federal, State and local requirements and JC (Joint Commission) and OSHA (Occupatonal Safety Health Administration) standards.
Collaborates with Risk and Insurance management in development/maintenance of a reporting system for accidents, injuries, and safety hazards.
Investigates/reports serious incidents and near-misses.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 6 + years experience in occupational health and safety, public health, fire protection engineering, allied health professions, or related technical field.
- Certified Safety Professional and Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager preferred.
- Direct experience in safety program development and management.
- Interpersonal savvy to communicate effectively with hospital administration/leadership and support staff.
- Strong level of influence to ensure compliance and implementation.
- Strong computer and administrative skills.
