Job Description:


Reporting directly to the HR Director, the HR Manager will oversee and maintain official corporate records/documents; execute administrative policies; develop, implement and preserve systems and procedures to support the organization in a multi-unit setting. Maintain confidentiality in all matters. Coordinate and complete activities (individually or in cooperation with other team members) of designated projects to ensure that goals and objectives are accomplished within a prescribed time frame and funding parameters.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:


Associate Relations:



  • Participates in litigation avoidance activities: investigates and advises management in appropriate resolution of associate relations issues.

  • Coordinates and conducts management training related to this area (ex. separations, preventing workplace harassment and managing performance).

  • Investigates and advises management in appropriate resolution of associate relations issues such as: working conditions, disciplinary actions, associate and applicant appeals, Equal Employment, Speak Up Hotline calls, documentation procedures, or other HR related matters as required.

  • Provides guidance to managers in handling difficult or complex associate relations’ issues and in resolving complaints or disputes. Advises managers on appropriate disciplinary actions to ensure consistency.

  • Tracks designated activity reports and keeps HRD informed of all HR related trends where/as appropriate.

  • Researches complaints about all salary/wage treatments (e.g. merit increases, promotions, demotions, pay adjustments, etc.) when issues are not resolved through the standard process in accordance with Policy.

  • Provides HR guidance/consultation for managers and associates in the areas of associate relations, performance management, compensation and benefits, and Company Policies.

  • Maintains complete and accurate filing system to provide immediate retrieval of any required documents.

  • Maintains strong relationships with internal customers and external clients.

  • Assists hiring managers with hourly onboarding and utilization of MyOpportunity.

  • Ensures employment eligibility (I-9) compliance.


Strategic Partner:



  • Designs and implements human resources tools to support the strategic and tactical HR business plan at the unit and corporate levels.



  • Makes recommendations to reduce absenteeism and turnover (i.e.: Wage Analysis, FLSA Audits).



  • Oversees and coordinates all HR related activities connected to payroll conversions/new account openings in the MI market.

  • Occasionally attends staff/region/district meetings to learn about trends and identify possible People needs; present/report on HR-related statistics; maintain strategic business relationships.






Training & Development:



  • Regularly conducts HR related training (ex. HR Essentials, Dignity & Respect, Compliance, etc.)

  • Assists in creating standardized HR owned training programs at the unit level to ensure appropriate use of the HR Brand and consistency of messaging.

  • Ensures compliance with all required training programs (W&H, PWH, LOA, etc.)

  • Assists with the HR segment development for onboarding new managers at the unit level.



  • Delivers presentations regarding human resources policies, programs and practices, for use by department managers.


Other Skills:



  • Strong written and oral communications skills; articulate.

  • Superior organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Has accountability to HR Director.

  • Other duties where/as assigned by the HR Director and/or SVP and VP of Operations.


Education and/or Experience:



  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.

  • PHR or SPHR designation a plus.

  • 3-5 years of human resource generalist experience, including 1-2 years exposure to a multi-unit environment; previous experience in overseeing the activities of a large number of associates a must.

  • Previous or existing experience as a Human Resources Generalist or Consultant supporting field operations.

  • Operations experience; both union and non-union exposure; and championing the efforts of creativity through diverse population most desirable.
