Job Description:


In this role you will be responsible for reducing claims and lost time injuries by providing safety and workers compensation support to Compass Group sectors at a corporate campus facility. The support provided will include: Training; Site visits/ inspection; implementation of policies and procedures; measurement; Communication. This will be accomplished through routine meetings, conference calls, and on site visits. The Safety Manager will have no direct reports and will report directly to the Regional Safety Manager and Site Manager.




Responsibilities:



  • Use background knowledge in accident prevention to reduce risk of injury

  • Analyze status reports to determine trends and develop action plan to reduce financial impact.

  • Focus on units experiencing increased injury trend and provide solutions for improvement.

  • Utilize financial and worker injury report to determine where focus should be emphasized.

  • Inspection/Site visit – Ensure that Compass Group facilities comply with OSHA and other state and federal standards through facility inspection. In addition, ensure that the unit is in compliance with safety and workers compensation procedures. Provide management with results/recommendations following inspection. Follow-up on progress.

  • Awareness / Incentives – Ensure that units have effective “on-going” safety awareness programs to promote a safe work environment. Provide incentive programs to increase awareness for management and employees.

  • Compass Support – Assist the Compass Risk Management Department in the development and administration of effective and efficient loss prevention and control programs.

  • Management Training – Provide training to managers to follow safe work practices and maintain a safe working environment through training, presentations, conference calls, and the distribution of safety materials.

  • Communication – Ensure that the unit, TPA and clinic communicate regularly on open claims. In addition, provide safety status to senior management on a monthly basis. This may include attending meetings and conference calls. Ongoing communication will assist in reducing accidents, late claims, and out of work days.

  • Measurement – Ensure that all levels of management receive monthly status reports. These reports will provide management trending data and penalty comparisons. Emphasis will be placed on those units experiencing increasing trends and high penalties.

  • Provide a support role in relation to environmental, health and safety matters; in particular, assist with implementation of the UK Health, Safety and Environment strategy.

  • Follow OSHA, DOT and EPA regulations as defined by federal, state, local laws and Compass' policies/procedures.

  • Actively monitor/inspect the workplace to determine the presence of hazards and take appropriate action to rectify any hazards found.

  • Participate where required in the resolution of safety issues.

  • Preview the component injury data and ascertain location of injuries and provide recommendation to eliminate hazards.

  • Train local management in proper methods of investigation, and inspection format; compliance with safety laws and regulations; fire evacuation; CPR and self-inspections.

  • Conduct “Safety” inspections of Compass facilities for hazards as well as walk-through visits.

  • Maintains OSHA recordkeeping; with assistance from corporate Risk Management, the position will determine reportable illnesses and injuries; position will prepare reports for all campus sites on a regular basis; position will prepare annual reports.

  • In conjunction with corporate risk management, the position will develop Compass' rehabilitation policy and strategies that will enable injured employees to return more quickly to productive work.

  • Monitor and report on workers’ compensation claim trends and develop strategies that address injury management.

  • Ensure the activities associated with the successful return to work of injured workers are coordinated and implemented to minimize absence from work.

  • Conduct regular return to work meetings with injured employees, their supervisor and if required union representatives to review the progress of the return to work plan and progress towards a full return to pre-injury work.

  • Provide advice to managers, supervisors and staff regarding safety and injury management practices, issues and trends.

  • Develop and maintain an alternative duties database to support and encourage effective organizational return to work programs.

  • Coordinate and facilitate Compass' accident and injury reduction and well-being strategy by working with employees, supervisors and managers to provide appropriate training and etc.

  • Act as the point of contact for matters regarding return to work/rehabilitation programs of employees and provide employees, supervisors and managers with regular update on progress.

  • Employee Training – Provide safety training materials and support to management to initiate ongoing safety training with associates. This includes: Orientation, Monthly Meeting Topics, and Annual Refresher Training. In addition, training for those who fail to follow procedures. Follow-up on unit compliance.

  • Other Duties As Assigned.




Qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must be bilingual in Spanish/English

  • Knowledge of Business Services (mail, conference, S&R, etc.) preferred

  • Background in accident prevention is a must

  • Experience in Oil and Gas Preferred

  • Certified Safety Professional.

  • Associate Safety Professional.

  • Experience in implementing a variety of occupational health and safety programs.

  • Ability to conduct investigations and evaluations and evaluating cost and risk factors.

  • Ability to interpret and apply a variety of laws, rules and regulations.

  • Ability to make presentations before a variety of groups.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, high volume environment.

  • Ability to work well with internal and external business partners, including the Compass Sectors, Compass human resources professionals, Compass benefits professionals, TPAs and external defense counsel.
